Realme was the fastest growing 5G Android smartphone brand globally in Q3 2021, as its sales grew 831 percent year-over-year (YoY), according to a new report. Additionally, Realme’s sales outpaced global 5G smartphone
Interestingly, Realme’s 5G sales grew 9,519 percent year-on-year in India, where 5G technology has yet to be rolled out. According to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), 5G telecommunications services will be rolled out in selected cities in India in 2022, a year that is expected to see increased demand for 5G devices.According to Counterpoint Research’s monthly Market Pulse Service report, growth in sales helped Realme retain sixth place in global 5G Android smartphone sales for the second consecutive quarter.
Earlier this year, Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth said the company aims to be a leader in 5G in India. The company is also working to bring 5G technology to the sub-Rs. 10,000 segment. According to Research Director Tarun Pathak, Realme’s strong multi-channel strategy and extensive 5G portfolio across all price bands helped it grow faster.In the global market, the second and third places are occupied by its sister brands Oppo (growth of 165 percent) and Vivo (growth of 147 percent), respectively.
All of these companies are owned by China-based BBK Electronics. Fourth place went to another Chinese brand, Xiaomi, which posted 134 percent year-on-year growth in 5G smartphone sales. Samsung ranked fifth with 70 percent growth compared to the third quarter of 2020. Apple, the current 5G market leader, entered the 5G smartphone market in the fourth quarter of 2020.5G as a technology that has penetrated much faster than its predecessor.
